Your nuanced approach to how Erdoğan is approaching the situation is great feedback for me. It is important to remember that while it is easy to vilify a leader we also need to be fair about how he or she speaks and the way in which he or she uses language to influence society.

I can’t wait to see the new version of your blog!

This is excellent! You really are there down on the ground & in the thick of it. The above report shows that. Loved the video interview there. As for the piece, you managed to condense a complex story into a digestible form — not an easy task when explaining Turkey to our Western friends. I may have nuanced it a bit more (ie, Erdoğan’s stupid remark about bringing a million onto the streets was via Twitter, if I’m not wrong, which he also added that that’s not his style, in so many words — a dig at the opposition parties who he blames, among many, for the unrest). But, in any case, good good stuff. Especially the historical context. Yep, we are right in the thick of history in the making…

By the way, my blog is undergoing a design overhaul. Following the link with this comment for Istanbul Despatch shows I’ve not done anything on the writing front since last year. That’s about to change as soon as the redesign is done… which is just around the corner (hopefully!). Will send you the link for the new (slightly renamed) blog as soon as its open for business 🙂

Respect. & let’s keep in touch.

JIm
